Knox County Right to Life sponsors a traveling memorial display that consists of 100 small white crosses and a sign stating "Lives Lost and Hearts Wounded" and that over 3,000 lives are lost to abortion each year in Knox County. Each cross represents 100 children. The Crosses for the Unborn display is hosted by various churches for one month. Knox County Right to Life volunteers set up and take down the display each month. Knox County Right to Life maintains the Rachel Mourning Memorial at Lynnhurst Cemetery on Adair Drive in North Knoxville. Those who have lost children from abortion or miscarriage use this as a place of grieving and healing. Flowers, stuffed animals and notes to children have been found at the statue. The memorial is based on the biblical character, Rachel - a woman kneeling with roses. The inscription on the memorial is from Jeremiah 31:15--"A voice is heard in Ramah, lamenting and weeping bitterly. It is Rachel weeping for her children because they are no more." Knox County Right to Life has developed the Sanctity of Life Sunday School Curriculum. This one-of-a-kind program is a scripture based K - 12 curriculum that is designed not only to combat the Culture of Death but also to build a Culture of Life. It has a highly flexible format with parent and teacher components and is well suited for Sunday School classes. All materials necessary are included in this multi-sensory, incremental program, and it only takes two class periods each year to implement. Teacher training and parent informational sessions are an integral part of this program. The Cemetery of Innocents has been on display at area churches since August 2001. The cemetery, consisting of approximately 100 white crosses, represents those children in Northwest Tennessee who lose their lives to abortion each year. This display helps to raise awareness in the community and stands to testify that abortion IS NOT just a big city problem. Local churches in the area host the Cemetery of Innocents for two weeks, assisting with set up and removal.. Local membership is $25.00 annually and includes membership in the state organization. Sevier County Right to Life also sponsors a Cemetery of the Innocents display thru-out the county. It is a display consisting of 51 white crosses, each representing one of the 50 states and the District of Columbia. Each cross bears a plate which gives the number of abortions in each state. There are two banners which travel with the crosses - "Abortion Murders Children" and "Jesus Saves." Any church in Sevier County may request the display for a 30 day period. There is also a mourning bench with the display to allow people to sit and meditate or pray.
