Obama Cover-Up on Born Alive Infant Protection Act Revealed
"Newly obtained documents prove that in 2003, Barack Obama, as chairman of an Illinois state Senate committee, voted down a bill to protect live-born survivors of abortion -- even after the panel had amended the bill to contain verbatim language, copied from a federal bill passed by Congress without objection in 2002, explicitly foreclosing any impact on abortion.  Obama's legislative actions in 2003 -- denying effective protection even to babies born alive during abortions -- were contrary to the position taken on the same language by even the most liberal members of Congress.   The bill Obama killed was virtually identical to the federal bill that even NARAL ultimately did not oppose."

Tennessee Right to Life’s 9th Annual Pro-Life Oratory Contest

Joseph Riley from Etowah places first
Tennessee Right to Life held its 9th annual Pro-Life Oratory Contest on Saturday, June 14, 2008 at Aquinas College in Nashville. More than 115 public, private, and home schooled students in grades 9-12 participated in 30 Right to Life County Chapter Contests across Tennessee.  Each participant was required to research, write, and present an original five to seven minute pro-life speech, using factual and current information, on abortion, infanticide, embryonic stem cell research, or euthanasia.

Joseph Riley, a junior from Etowah, placed first in the contest and will compete on July 5 in the annual National Right to Life Oratory Contest to be held during the National Right to Life Convention in Washington, D.C. July 3-5.  As a first place winner, Mr. Riley, representing McMinn Country Right to Life Chapter, received a $500.00 award and will have the opportunity to attend the National Teens for Life Convention or the National Right to Life Convention, which runs concurrently.

Congress Passes Bill to Ban Genetic Discrimination
after Adding Pro-Life Language

WASHINGTON (May 8, 2008)--Congress gave final approval in early May to landmark legislation to ban genetic discrimination by employers and health insurance providers.

President Bush is expected to soon sign the legislation, the Genetic Information Non-discrimination Act (GINA) (H.R. 493).

The legislation has been under consideration in Congress for more than a decade. Until recently, it contained certain defects that made it impossible for the National Right to Life Committee and other pro-life groups to support it. But those defects were corrected in the current Congress due in large part to the work of Congressman Bart Stupak (D-Mi.), the co-chair of the House Pro-Life Caucus, resulting in a final bill that substantially advances pro-life interests.

The main thrust of the GINA is to ban discrimination in employment or health insurance on the basis of tests that show a person's genetic makeup. Advocates for the bill argued that as genetic information and testing becomes more prevalent, employers and health insurance providers would be increasingly likely to use that information to discriminate against persons with genetic predispositions to costly and debilitating diseases.
