Memphis Planned Parenthood Not Reporting Child Abuse?

A national pro-life group, Live Action, reported today, Monday, April 20, that a Memphis Planned Parenthood counselor was caught on hidden camera coaching a supposed 14 year old girl to lie to a judge about her 31 year old boyfriend.

Lila Rose, 20-year-old UCLA student and president of the nonprofit Live Action, entered Planned Parenthood's Memphis Health Center undercover and told a counselor that she was 14 years old, pregnant by her 31-year-old "boyfriend", and needed a secret abortion so her parents would not find out about her sexual relationship with the older man.  Tennessee Code 37-1-605 requires health professionals to report suspected cases of sexual abuse of minors to law enforcement immediately.

If proven, these charges could also violate provisions of Tennessee's parental consent law which ironically was unsuccessfully challenged by the Memphis Planned Parenthood affiliate in 1995.  That protection was lobbied and passed through the grassroots work and members of Tennessee Right to Life.

Responding to today's news, Tennessee Right to Life made the following statement:

Tennessee Right to Life respectfully calls for public authorities to initiate a full investigation of what appears to be a pattern of circumventing state laws regarding sexual predators, the care of minor children, and the protection of parental rights.     

With evidence that Planned Parenthood is blatantly disregarding the state's parental consent law and working to cover up sexual abuse of minors, there is no reason for Tennesseans to continue funding the outrages of the state's largest promoter and performer of abortion," said Brian Harris, president of the organization.
